Indications Suction catheter for clearing secretions in patients who are unable to cough them up on their own.

Material Made of medical-grade PVC, which is flexible and smooth, making it well suited to suctioning secretions. Packed in a PE pouch and sterilized with ethylene oxide gas (EO GAS).

Packaging 1 catheter per pouch / 50 pouches per pack / 10 packs per carton (500 catheters per carton)

  1. Catheter length (including connector): 50 ± 1 cm
  2. Connector colours: size 8 blue, size 10 black, size 12 white, size 14 green, size 16 orange
  3. Inner diameter: size 8 = 1.50 mm, size 10 = 2.00 mm, size 12 = 2.45 mm, size 14 = 2.95 mm, size 16 = 3.40 mm
  4. Outer diameter: size 8 = 3.3 ± 0.10 mm, size 10 = 4.00 ± 0.15 mm, size 12 = 2.45 ± 0.15 mm, size 14 = 2.95 ± 0.20 mm, size 16 = 3.40 ± 0.20 mm

Directions for use

  1. Select the appropriate catheter size:

Infants: F5–F8

Young children: F8–F10

Adults: F12–F14

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly, put a glove on your dominant hand, tear open the pouch and handle the catheter using aseptic technique.
  2. Connect the catheter to the suction unit, then kink the tube or close the valve port to prevent suction from injuring the tissue in the throat.
  3. Begin suctioning according to the standard procedure.
  4. Discard the catheter after suctioning. Do not reuse.

Precautions

  1. Suctioning while the stomach is full may cause aspiration.
  2. Do not suction more than 3 times per session.
  3. Each suction pass should not exceed 10 seconds, to prevent laryngospasm, hypoxia, and vagus nerve stimulation that can cause an irregular heartbeat.
  4. Pause for 20–30 seconds between passes to prevent oxygen deficiency.
  5. If the patient still has a lot of secretions after 3 passes, wait at least 2–3 minutes before suctioning again.
